Requirement
- Use terms from the current XBOX terminology list in all localized in-title text.
- Do not reference components of a competing platform in text or imagery.
- Controller button call-outs, icons, and prompts must match the current XBOX Wireless Controller nomenclature (A, B, X, Y, LB, LT, RB, RT, View, Menu, XBOX, Share).
- Localized surface strings must use the localized terms in the terminology list, not literal translations.
Test cases
022-01 Official Naming Standards
- Launch the title and visit every menu, sub-menu, cutscene, and settings screen.
- Save and load all supported game types.
- Note every text string and image that refers to hardware, controller inputs, or XBOX network features.
- Compare each against the current terminology list for the active locale.
- The title uses a proprietary term or image from a competitive platform.
- The title refers to a component of the console system or peripheral using any term not in the terminology list.
Common mistakes
- Cross-platform prompts — leftover PlayStation button glyphs, or generic “trigger” language, when running on XBOX.
- Legacy XBOX Live — mentions of “XBOX Live Gold” after the rebrand to XBOX Game Pass Essential / Core.
- Untranslated controller strings — English button names in localized builds.
- Marketing tag divergence — using “XBOX Series X|S Enhanced” instead of the current official capability tag.
