How to read an FMA
- XR number — maps to the catalog in XBOX requirements.
- Severity — ship-blocker vs. recommendation.
- Repro — exact device, build, sandbox, and steps.
- Expected behavior — what the title should do instead.
Resubmission workflow
- Fix each ship-blocker XR.
- Note recommendations to address in the next update.
- Reproduce locally on a retail-equivalent kit before resubmitting.
- Upload the new package via Packages referencing the FMA ID.
Common XR FMA categories
Certification frequently delivers FMAs against the same XR families. Use this list as a triage checklist:
If your FMA cites an XR not in this list, look it up directly in XBOX requirements for the canonical TCR text.
Beta and Game Preview submissions
Beta and Game Preview titles use a reduced XR set vs. full retail. Key differences:- A subset of XRs is enforced; the remainder are evaluated as recommendations.
- Submissions still require an age rating and store listing, but content can change more often without re-cert if the title’s Game Preview flag is set.
- Once you exit Game Preview, the full XR catalog applies — plan to address recommendation-level findings before the 1.0 submission to avoid a long FMA at launch.
