Version 1.3, 07/21/2026 Titles must give users the option to access gamercards (user profiles) for any other XBOX users encountered within the title.

More information

Consistent gamercard access helps maintain a cohesive platform ecosystem and provides users with a reliable means of accessing both XBOX social features and safety options. To perform this action, titles may use the XGameUiShowPlayerProfileCardAsync API. If it isn’t feasible to call this API, titles may use other APIs (for example, XSAPI) to create bespoke custom gamercards that remain consistent across XBOX endpoints. At minimum, custom gamercards must include the following XBOX platform elements and options:
  • Gamertag
  • Block player
  • Mute player
  • Add/remove friend
  • Go to full profile

Implementation guidance and best practices

Usernames displayed in areas with navigable UI (for example, lobbies and most in-game menus) should allow selection of the username and offer a direct prompt to open the player’s gamercard. If usernames are displayed in an area that is not directly navigable or selectable (for example, active gameplay, heads-up displays, static loading screens, etc.), the title must offer proximate gamercard access via adjacent menus or experiences such as a post-game lobby, in-title players list, or other in-game location. If a title maintains an accessible centralized location (for example, a “social” tab) that allows persistent access to players’ gamercards, it may be used in lieu of offering gamercard access in each individual UI location where those same users are displayed. However, if there are UI areas that display usernames that are not listed in the centralized location, those areas must provide gamercard access. If an XBOX user’s username is only displayed in non-navigable areas and gamercard access is not provided elsewhere in the title, an exception will be required, subject to approval based on perceived risk. In the event a title uses a display name other than XBOX gamertag, gamercard access is still required between XBOX users. The availability of title-level safety options (reporting, muting, etc.) and social features does not negate the need for gamercard access between XBOX users.

Certification test cases

047-01 User-profile access

Test steps
  1. Devices 1 and 2: Boot the title.
  2. Devices 1 and 2: Sign in to an XBOX profile.
  3. Device 1: Set up an XBOX multiplayer game session.
  4. Device 2: Find and join the game session created by console 1.
  5. Verify the following after device 2 has joined the game session:
    • From the pre-game lobby, access another XBOX user’s gamercard by selecting the gamertag or username.
    • During gameplay, attempt to access another XBOX user’s gamercard by selecting the user’s username or gamertag (this may or may not be possible, depending on the title).
    • From the post-game statistics screen, access another XBOX user’s gamercard by selecting the user’s username or gamertag.
    • From the leaderboards area, access another XBOX user’s gamercard by selecting the user’s username or gamertag.
    • Find any other area where gamertags are listed, and attempt to access another XBOX user’s gamercard by selecting the user’s username or gamertag.
Expected result
It is expected that the user will be able to view the other XBOX user’s gamercard information. If the area is not navigable or if gamercard access is not directly provided, the user must be able to invoke the other XBOX user’s gamercard from proximate or centralized locations within the title.
Pass examples
  1. A user is able to access another XBOX user’s gamercard in all locations where gamertags are displayed and UI navigation is enabled.
  2. A user is able to access another XBOX user’s gamercard through a persistently available centralized location within the title.
  3. A user is able to access the gamercard of an XBOX user listed in a non-navigable UI location by using adjacent in-game experiences or a persistently available centralized location within the title.
Fail example
  1. A user is unable to access another XBOX user’s gamercard because access is not provided from the UI location, proximate in-game experiences, or a persistently available centralized location within the title.
  2. A user is unable to access another XBOX user’s gamercard because their username is not navigable anywhere within the title.
