Recovery (wdRecovery.exe) - XBOX Game Development Documentation

Installs a new system recovery from the XBOX Network, local update files, or files hosted on an accessible remote share.

Command	Description
install	installs a console recovery
live	installs a console recovery from the cloud
getversionid	Get the version Id of the currently installed recovery or recovery assigned to a specific update group (‘LatestProduction’ or ‘LatestPreview’)

wdRecovery install

Install a system update by downloading data from an accessible network share or using local files. Requires that XBOX Live authorizes this console to install this update. wdRecovery install <updatePath> [/factoryreset] [/xblsandbox <sandboxId>] [/skipifequal]

Option	Description
`updatePath`	The path to the network share containing the recovery files.
`factoryreset`	Force a reset of all settings and internal storage.
`xblsandbox`	Override the default LIVE sandbox.
`skipifequal`	Skip this update and return 0x8C11111D (this recovery is not needed) if the console is already on this version of the recovery.

wdrecovery live

Install a system update by downloading data from the cloud, specified by either a version Id or a specific update group to install the recovery assigned to that group (either LatestProduction or LatestPreview). Requires that XBOX Live authorizes this console to install this update.

wdRecovery live <versionId> | LatestProduction | LatestPreview [/factoryreset] [/xblsandbox <sandboxId>] [/skipifequal] [/cdnoverride <URI>]

Option	Description
`versionId`	Exact version ID to install (of the form x.x.xxxx.x.xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx). You can see the list of recoveries at https://aka.ms/XboxRecoveryArchive
`factoryreset`	Force a reset of all settings and internal storage.
`xblsandbox`	Override the default LIVE sandbox.
`skipifequal`	Skip this update and return 0x8C11111D (this recovery is not needed) if the console is already on this version of the recovery.
`cdnoverride`	Override the CDN value returned by XBOX Live, with a custom CDN endpoint. Supplying the version Id parameter is encouraged when using this option. The full path to all update files will need to be as follows: <CDN override value>.<Version ID of the build>/<Flat directory of update files> eg. `http://example.com/xboxupdates/10.0.19041.6288.afaf9289-dc86-45ab-9515-02554081a1e8/*`

wdrecovery getversionid

Get the version Id of the currently running system software, or the versionId of the recovery assigned to a specific update group (LatestProduction or LatestPreview). This output can be used as the version Id to the ‘wdrecovery.exe live’ update command. wdRecovery getversionid [LatestProduction | LatestPreview]
