# User management (xbuser.exe)

> User management (xbuser.exe)

Use this tool to add a user to, remove a user from, sign a user in to, or sign a user out of a Development Kit. This tool provides the following subcommands and functions.

| Command | Description |
| - | - |

## xbuser add

Adds a user to the console. Adds an *existing* account - doesn't create a new account.

Added users persist through dev kit switches to and from retail. Added users also persist through a dev kit recovery if a factory reset isn't performed.

| **xbuser add** \[/e\[:]*email address*] |

| Option | Description |
| - | - |
| /e\[:]*email address* | The email address of the user to be added to the console |
| /LC | Specify the locale code. Used to override the default locale code |

## xbuser addsponsored

Adds a sponsored user to the console and signs the user in.

Guest users are associated with an account that's already signed in. The system picks a currently signed-in user to be the sponsor. Further calls to **addsponsored** continue to use that user for all subsequent sponsored users. If the selected user gets signed out, all sponsored users are signed out at that time.

The **addsponsored** command fails if no users are signed in.

## xbuser signin

Signs in the user by using the specified ID or email address. If the user doesn't already exist on the console, the user is added to it.

| Column 1 | |
| - | - |
| **xbuser signin** \[/i:\<userId> | /e:\<email address>] \[/p:password] |

| Option | Description | |
| - | - | - |
| /i:\<userId> | /e:\<email address> | The ID or email address of the user to sign in. |
| /p:password | The user's password. The password is used for authentication only and isn't stored on the console. The password is optional if a valid token already exists on the console from a previous sign-in by using this tool or the Sign-In app. In this release, the password isn't encrypted when it's passed to the console over the network. If this condition concerns you for your network environment, use the Sign-In app on the console to sign the user in. You can then use this tool to sign the user in without passing in the password. A password is required for accounts whose sign-in and security preferences is set to "Lock it down." | |
| /LC | Specify the locale code. Used to override the default locale code | |
