# Screen-capture tool (xbcapture.exe)

> Screen-capture tool (xbcapture.exe)

Use this tool to capture a screenshot or video clip from the console.

* Screen capture temporarily suspends Game DVR. Any video clips that are recorded with the /C switch while a screen capture is being taken will have a black segment for the duration of the screen capturing process.

* You can also use the [XBOX Manager](/tools/tools-console/xbom/xbom.md) tool to capture screenshots and record video clips.

| Column 1 |
| - |
| **xbcapture** *filespec* \[/C \[/T\[:]time] ] \[/V \[/T\[:]time] ] \[/O] \[/X\[:]*address\[+\<accesskey>]*] |

| Option | Description |
| - | - |
| *filespec* | The path and file name for storing a capture. If no *filespec* is provided, the content is saved to the current directory on the development PC as *xbox\_screenshot.png* or *xbox\_videoclip.mp4*, depending on the usage of **/T**. |
| /C \[/T\[:]*time]* | - Specifies that the tool records a Game DVR video clip of the running title instead of capturing an image. - By default, unless a number of seconds is passed with the **/T** flag, the command records the previous 90 seconds. - **/T\[:]time** specifies the length of time over which the video is to be captured. The valid range is 6-300 and is expressed in seconds. |
| /V \[/T\[:]*time]* | - Specifies that the tool records a live video clip of the running title, shared apps or system UI (such as the Home page or a notification dialog box) instead of capturing an image. - By default, unless a number of seconds is passed with the **/T** flag, the command records the next 90 seconds. - **/T\[:]time** specifies the length of time over which the video is to be captured. The valid range is 6-21600 and is expressed in seconds. |
| /O | Overwrites an existing file if it has the same name as that of the output file. |
| /H | Takes a high dynamic range (HDR) screenshot in JXR format. If an HDR screenshot is requested and the console isn't in HDR mode, the attempt to take a screenshot fails. |
| /G | Takes a game-only screenshot to mimic a retail screenshot. |
| /X\[:]*address\[+\<accesskey>]* | - Use this option to specify the host name or address (shown as **Tools IP** on the console) of a targeted console without changing the default console. For details about setting a host name for a console, see [Setting a host name for the console IP address](/home/setup-install/dev-kit-settings/setting-a-hostname.md). - If you don't use this option, the default console (previously set by [Connect (xbconnect.exe)](/tools/tools-console/commandlinetools/xbconnect.md)) is used. - Use the *accesskey* string to provide access to a console only to those people who have the access key. - Set the access key by using the command **xbconfig accesskey=your-key**, and then restart your console to make the access key effective. - To access a console that's been configured with an access key, you must include a plus sign (+) and the access key after the IP address or host name of the console. - If an access key is provided when the default console is set by [xbconnect](/tools/tools-console/commandlinetools/xbconnect.md), the access key is stored as part of the default console's address. For more information about access keys, see [xbconfig accesskey](/tools/tools-console/commandlinetools/xbconfig.md). |
| /LC | Specify the locale code. Used to override the default locale code |
