# What is Identity in PlayFab?

## Player Identity

PlayFab enables game creators to manage and integrate player data effectively by associating it with players' identities across various platforms. PlayFab creates a single player identity that allows players to authenticate [multiple authentication methods](/services/playfab/identity/player-identity/platform-specific-authentication) (Google, Facebook, Apple, and more) and link their favorite accounts to PlayFab's player identity. This allows comprehensive tracking of players, regardless of the identity provider they select. Having a single player identity across studios and games allows game developers to build a cohesive experience for players, such as granting players who have completed the first two games of a series a bonus items or avatars in the third installment of a game.

## Developer Identity

Developer identity refers to the method by which game creators engage with PlayFab for the purposes of building, analyzing, and operating their games. PlayFab employs Microsoft accounts, enabling creators to utilize a single account across the entire Microsoft gaming ecosystem. This system grants creators the flexibility to use a developer identity to allocate access to various sections or entire projects within their studio and titles to collaborators via designated [permissions and roles](/services/playfab/identity/dev-identity/permissions/playfab-user-roles).
