# XR-055 Achievements and Gamerscore

> Titles must ship with required minimum achievements and Gamerscore at launch, respect per-achievement and lifetime limits, and be unlockable via gameplay.

**XR-055 is tested in Certification.** All games targeting XBOX consoles are required to have Achievements and meet the following requirements. Demos aren’t allowed to have achievements; however, they have the option of supporting Hero Stats.

## Requirement

Titles must ship the required number of achievements and their associated Gamerscore at launch. You can add achievements and Gamerscore at any time after launch — with or without new content — but not beyond the calendar and lifetime limits below.

* **A single achievement can’t exceed 200 Gamerscore.**
* **Every achievement in the title must be achievable.**
* Unlocking achievements in the base game or a content update must represent a thorough exploration of, or engagement with, game content.

| Item                 | Launch | Semi-annual additions | Lifetime limit |
| -------------------- | ------ | --------------------- | -------------- |
| Minimum achievements | 10     | 0                     | 10             |
| Maximum achievements | 100    | 100                   | 500            |
| Gamerscore           | 1000   | 1000                  | 5000           |

<Note>
  “Semi-annual” means January–June and July–December. Base-game achievements and Gamerscore do not count against the semi-annual limits.
</Note>

## Test cases

### 055-01 Achievements

1. Review the total Gamerscore and total number of achievements supported by the title.
2. Play through the title and attempt to earn every achievement.
3. Repeat step 2 after resuming from connected standby.
4. Repeat step 2 while disconnected from XBOX services.

**Pass:**

* Every achievement can be earned.
* Achievements unlock only when their criteria are met.
* Achievements represent a thorough exploration of, or engagement with, game content.
* The launch build has 1000 Gamerscore spread across 10–100 achievements.

**Fail:**

* An achievement doesn’t unlock when its criteria are met, or unlocks before its criteria are met.
* Achievements can be trivially unlocked without engaging with core gameplay.
* The launch build has more or fewer than 10–100 achievements, or less/more than 1000G.
* A single achievement exceeds 200 Gamerscore.
* Achievements fail to unlock after resuming from connected standby or after reconnecting to XBOX services.
