# PAGE 103 · Accessible social media for gaming events

> Post accessible event announcements and updates with PAGE 103 guidance on image alt-text, closed captions, audio description, and photosensitivity safety.

Social media is often where guests first learn about your event. Inaccessible posts can prevent people from finding, understanding, or attending it. A few simple steps make announcements and updates accessible to everyone.

## Scoping questions

This guideline applies if you answer **yes** to any of the following:

* Will you announce your event on social media?
* Will you post event updates on social media?
* Will you post live updates as the event progresses?
* Will you post a wrap-up or celebration afterward?

## Implementation guidelines

### Images

**Alt-text**

* Add clear, concise alt-text to every image.
* If an image contains text, include all of that text in the alt-text.

### Videos

**Closed captions**

* Any video with speech, sound effects, or music needs closed captions. If the platform doesn't support toggleable captions, burn them in.
* For burned-in ("open") captions: large sans-serif font, opaque background, and at least 7:1 contrast between text and background.
* Use proper sentence case.
* Do **not** rely on auto-generated captions. Validate before posting.

### Audio description

* Any video with visual action not covered by narration needs audio description — either inline or via a linked audio-described version.
* Use simple, concise, natural-language sentences.
* Identify the speaker and the location or scene.
* Validate before posting.

### Photosensitivity

* Videos should be free of flickering, rapid flashes, red flashes, and alternating patterns of contrasting colors.
* Avoid stripes of contrasting colors.

See [XAG 118 · Photosensitivity](/build/game-principles/accessibility/xag-deep-dives/xag-118-photosensitivity) for full guidance.

### Information

**Accommodations**

* Ahead of the event, describe accommodations that will be available: sign-language interpretation, closed captions, audio descriptions, sensory processing aids, quiet rooms, and more.
