# XBOX One Software Development Kit migration overview

> XBOX One Software Development Kit migration overview

## API comparison

The following table summarizes the API space for networking that was available in the XBOX One Software Development Kit and provides the new API that has the same or similar functionality for the Microsoft Game Development Kit (GDK). For more information about each individual API for the Microsoft Game Development Kit (GDK), see its associated links.

| Feature | XBOX One Software Development Kit | GDK |
| - | :-: | :-: |
| All-in-one solution (network communication and in-game chat) | XBOX Integrated Multiplayer (XIM) and Azure PlayFab Party | [Azure PlayFab Party](/build/console-features/networking/game-mesh/playfab-party-intro-networking.md) |
| Network connectivity | `Windows::Networking::Connectivity` | [XNetworkingGetConnectivityHint](/build/console-features/networking/initialization-connectivity-networking.md) |
| HTTP | `IXMLHttpRequest2` | [XCurl](/build/console-features/networking/web-requests/intro-xcurl.md) or [WinHTTP](/build/console-features/networking/web-requests/intro-winhttp.md) |
| WebSockets | `IMessageWebSocket` | [WinHTTP](/build/console-features/networking/web-requests/http-networking.md) |
| Sockets | Winsock | [Winsock](/build/console-features/networking/game-mesh/winsock-intro-networking.md) |
| Socket security | Secure sockets and BCrypt | OpenSSL Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) or Bcrypt DTLS [(Secure Game Communication)](https://learn.microsoft.com/gaming/gdk/docs/gdk-dev/game-principles/security/communication-security/communication-security-impl/gc-secure-communication-impl) |
| Port behavior | Network manifest | [Identical to Win32 Windows PC](/build/console-features/networking/game-mesh/winsock-intro-networking.md) |
| LAN traversal | Secure sockets and Azure PlayFab Party | [Azure PlayFab Party](/build/console-features/networking/game-mesh/playfab-party-intro-networking.md) |
| In-game chat | Game Chat 2 | [Game Chat 2](/services/xbox-services/multiplayer/chat/game-chat2/game-chat-2-intro.md) |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Winsock, Game Chat 2, BCrypt, and Azure PlayFab Party are all nearly identical in the Microsoft Game Development Kit (GDK) to their API surfaces in the XBOX One Software Development Kit. These portions of your code should likely be direct replacements.
